Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 October 2026
Ndi b'anyi ("we", "us") runs the Ndi b'anyi website and mobile apps, a platform for discussing development in South East Nigeria and following Issues through to completion. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to ndibeanyi.com and our iOS and Android apps.
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, username, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and an account identifier from them. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only see the relay address.
- Profile: an optional photo and bio, your preferred region and your language.
- What you post: Discussions, comments, votes, nominations, follows, News and Issue updates, and any images you attach.
- Reports and blocks: what you report and why, and the people you block.
- Identity verification (optional): if you ask to be verified, your legal name, the type of ID, photos of your government-issued ID and a selfie.
- Messages to us: anything you send when you contact support.
Information we collect automatically
- Sign-in sessions: which app or browser you signed in from, to keep you signed in and keep your account secure.
- Push notifications: if you allow them in the app, a device token from Apple or Google so we can send notifications.
- Visitor counts: a random, anonymous identifier stored on your device, used only to count how many people visit each day. It is not linked to your account.
- Technical data: standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and error details) used to run, secure and fix the service.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts or browsing activity on other sites, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How we use your information
- To run your account and show your posts, profile and activity on the platform.
- To personalise what you see by region, and to send the notifications and emails you choose (you can change these in Settings).
- To send essential service emails, such as password resets.
- To moderate content, act on reports, prevent abuse and keep the platform safe.
- To review identity verification requests and show the verified badge.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the platform is used so we can improve it.
We rely on your consent (for example, for optional verification and push notifications), on our agreement with you to provide the service, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the platform safe and working.
What is public
Ndi b'anyi is a public record. Your name, username, profile photo, bio, verified badges, and the Discussions, comments, News and updates you post can be seen by anyone, including people who aren't signed in. Please don't post private information about yourself or others. Your email address, votes on comments, reports, blocks and ID documents are never shown publicly.
Identity documents
ID photos and selfies are stored in a private, access-controlled store. Only Ndi b'anyi administrators reviewing your request can view them, through links that expire after a short time, and every view is logged. We use them only to confirm your name. They are never shown on your profile, and we delete them if you withdraw your request or delete your account.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run Ndi b'anyi, under contracts that limit how they can use it:
- Hosting, database and file storage providers (including Cloudflare for images).
- Email delivery providers, to send account and notification emails.
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple (Push Notification service), to deliver push notifications.
- Google and Apple, when you choose to sign in with them.
- uBid, which serves the ads shown on Ndi b'anyi. Ads are chosen by placement, not by your personal information, and we don't share your account details with advertisers.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people from harm, or as part of a merger or sale of the service (in which case this policy would continue to apply).
Some of these providers process data outside Nigeria. When they do, we take steps to ensure your information gets protection consistent with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
How long we keep information
- We keep your account information while your account is open.
- When you delete your account, we remove your email address, password, sign-in links to Google or Apple, photo, bio, notifications, device tokens and ID documents, and end all your sessions. Your Discussions and comments stay on the platform, credited to "Deleted user", because others have replied to and built on them.
- Moderation records may be kept longer where needed to prevent abuse or meet legal obligations.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correct: view and edit your profile in Settings.
- Delete: go to Profile → Settings → Delete account, in the app or on the website. If you can't sign in, email [email protected] from the address on your account.
- Notifications: turn email and push notifications on or off in Settings or your device settings.
- Verification: withdraw a pending request at any time.
- Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you can also ask for a copy of your data, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent. Email [email protected] to make a request. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Security
We use encryption in transit, hashed passwords, private storage for sensitive files and access logging. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
Ndi b'anyi is for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you are 16 or 17, you should have a parent or guardian's permission before you sign up. If you believe a child has created an account, email [email protected] and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our practices change and change the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email.
